For vacuum explosion, the material is heated until 60-70 degrees Celsius (depending on the type of biomass). Effectively, the pressure difference used is only 4-6 bar (again, depending on the type of biomass). The process is used to liberate the sugars needed for fermentation.

Results of vacuum explosion

Although the results may vary for types of biomass, our partners have demonstrated the technology with the following results:

  • 50% shorter residence time
  • 15% higher yield of biogas

  • at least 10% yield of bioethanol
